Alashia Trotter on Dominique Shields

Dominique is a 20 year old High School Graduate from Gateway STEM High School, class of 2013. Also in the year of 2013, she began SEMO University, which is where she attended for a year until she made the decision to come back home. She is now enrolled in a St. Louis Community College, where her focus is journalism because of her love for writing and news. She explains that this decision was better for her because she is closer to home and family. Dominique has very important financial goals, including saving for her own apartment and car, as she explains her love for being independent. While on summer break Dominique works for On the Money Magazine where she hopes to gain new experience from the program and her main focus is networking. Dominique contributes to On the Money magazine with a creative mind, her wonderful writing skills, photography/video skills, and her personality. She plans on saving the money she makes due to the fact that she will only be able to work a part time job when the school year starts, so she may as well save while she can. Five years from now, Dominique plans on having a job in the media department. To do all of these things she knows she has to stay on top of her academics and stay focused. Whenever she has free time, she enjoys reading fiction books, writing poetry and music lyrics, cooking chicken and pasta, singing as a part of her church, and dancing. If it was up to her who would be on the one dollar bill she would choose Frederick Douglass because he was an exceptional man with a lot of impact. As I got to know Dominique, she told me her favorite color is the black. As you get to know Dominique, you will learn that she is a very down to earth and a kind person. She is an important part of the On the Money team, and hopes to gain connections with the community by writing inspiring articles about the St. Louis area.
