The Money Team Fall 2015
My name is Mohamud Abdi, I am an 18 year old from a refugee camp in Da Dap, Kenya called Kakuma. I came to the United States with my family back in 2004; I am the second oldest child of 16. I currently attend Soldan International Studies High School as a senior. I participated in many extracurricular activities I was in the robotics club, science club, and game club during my freshman year. I also joined debate club my freshman year and continued to be a part of the team until my junior year. I was on the school soccer team and wrestling from my sophomore year to junior year. I joined the St. Louis Internship Program my junior year and earned an internship at a law firm called Schlichter Bogard & Denton LPP for the summer of 2015. Hands Up United is also an organization that I became apart during the summer of 2015, I started learning how to code with them and they have been teaching me what it means to be apart of a community and what I can do to impact my community. I love to play soccer and learn how to code on my spare time. I have a future goal of becoming and entrepreneur and starting a software company that turns in a fortune 500 company. Then I want to invest the profits into the infrastructure of a poverty stricken Country in Africa.
My name is Jenai Allen. I am a 18 year old student at Vashon High School. I want to be a nurse and I am planning to study nursing at Lindenwood University here in St. Louis. I am very outgoing and goofy. In my free time, I draw and play with my nephew. I love to play games with my nephew because he is great and he can brighten up any room. I like to go to the movies and talk on my phone most of the time. My favorite movies are The Lion King and Bring it On. My favorite colors are purple and black. My favorite foods are nachos, tacos and milkshakes. Milkshakes are wonderful because I can put whatever I want in them. Also, I love to cook. I like to cook eggs, bacon, sausage and I love to bake cookies.
Christopher Thorp was born on September 8, 1999 and is a sophomore at Metro Academic High School. He is highly motivated in life and cares about his future. In his free time, Chris browses the internet, and plays Super Smash Bros. He competitively reads books, volunteers, and watches movies. Chris has two older brothers, both in college. He is on his school’s debate team and played in the chess club until the end of his freshman year. In the future, Chris wants do something that he is passionate about.
My name is Ronald Walter I am currently a senior at Gateway STEM high school. On my spare time I like to watch scary movies and buy shoes. I am a very creative person and I express my creativity by making crafts and sometimes drawing. In the fall of 2016 I plan on attending Bradley University. I want to major in Fine Studio arts and minor in Marketing. After college I want to be an Art Director and I’m really glad I’m apart of On The Money. This will be the first step of many to becoming an art director.
Ariel Williams, 17, cheerleader at Gateway STEM has always had a knack for being full of pep. From her first two-step at the age of five to her tearing up the floors every performance today, Ariel emphasises that “Dance is life.” Born in Dallas, Texas, she comes from Jamaican,Creole, and Indian descent, which is probably what enriches her diverse technique. On top of her love for dance, she is also interested in marketing, for she wants to attend Southern Methodist University after she graduates. Ariel’s ultimate goal is to open her own dance studio while continuing her own desire for dance.“The boss side comes out, dance is not forever. I would enjoy bringing dance into the life of others.” After accomplishing her personal and career goals, she says her memorial plaque will read “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” This comes from her positive outlook on life and the obstacles she’s overcome.
My name is Karmin Wilson, I was born and raised in St. Louis MO. I am 17 years old and I have a great sense of humor. I am currently a senior at Gateway STEM High school. I am a hard working student and I’m about that money. After graduation I plan to attend Forest Park Community College for 2 years then transfer to a 4 year university. I am excited to work at On the Money because I love writing which is a way for me to express my thoughts and feelings. My career goals are to become Criminologist. A criminologist is a person who analyzies data to determine why the crime was committed and to prevent criminal behaviors. I hope On the Money will help me gain better writing, and editing skills.
